Founding partner Merielin Almonte has been practicing law since 2003, gaining extensive experience in the fields of Commercial Contracts, Agency and Distribution, Real Estate and Construction Law, Consumer Protection, Civil Liability, Probate Law, Competition Law and Economic Regulation. In 2013, she founded Merielin Almonte Estudio Legal.

Merielin has advised a number of foreign and national clients in cross border transactions, as well as on the regulations applicable to agency and distribution agreements under Law 173 on Protection of Importer Agents of Merchandises and Products and the USA-Dominican Republic Central America Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA). She has broad experience representing national and international firms before the Dominican Courts in product liability claims. She has represented prestigious Dominican and firms in the negotiation of turn-key contracts and construction agreements with foreign counterparts for development projects both in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Merielin has represented clients in debt renegotiation processes with banks and regulators of the financial system. She has handled asset acquisition agreements of major economic groups in the Dominican Republic. She has expertise handling the transfer of estates owned by foreigners in the Dominican Republic to their inheritors, as well as the implementation of estate planning schemes.

Merielin is arbitrator at the Alternative Dispute Resolution Center of the Chamber of Commerce of Santo Domingo, Inc. She lectures on Competition Law at APEC University in Santo Domingo and chairs the Fundación MAEL, Inc., a foundation dedicated to promoting consumer’s rights and Competition Law in the Dominican Republic. She is also Court Interpreter appointed by the Council of the Judiciary.
